As the summer draws to a close, there’s something exciting about the start of a new school term.

New routines begin. School bags are packed, timetables change, and after a few weeks of relaxed summer days, there’s a sense of getting back into a rhythm.

For young musicians, it can also be a brilliant time to start something new.

Perhaps learning an instrument has been on your child’s mind for a while. Perhaps they’ve been inspired by a song, an artist or a friend. Or maybe they’ve already started learning and are ready to take the next step.

Whatever the starting point, a new term is a great opportunity to make music part of the routine.

Why Start Music Lessons This Term?

Learning an instrument is about much more than simply learning where to put your fingers or how to read music.

It develops patience, creativity, confidence and perseverance. It gives children and young people an opportunity to express themselves, work towards something they can be proud of and experience the satisfaction that comes from making progress.

It doesn’t have to mean hours of practice every evening. In fact, for many beginners, starting with a small, achievable routine is the best way to build confidence.

Ten or fifteen minutes of focused practice can make a real difference when it becomes a regular part of the week.

And as students develop, their teacher can help them understand how to practise effectively—not simply how to practise for longer.

One-to-One Lessons

For students looking for individual tuition, one-to-one music lessons provide a personalised learning experience built around their interests, ability and goals.

Whether they’re picking up an instrument for the very first time, returning to something they played previously or looking to take their playing further, lessons can be shaped around the individual.

That might mean learning favourite songs, developing technique, preparing for performances, working towards exams or simply discovering the enjoyment that comes from playing.

There isn’t one route to becoming a musician.

Or Make Music Together with Band Lab

For students who love the idea of making music with other people, our Band Lab sessions offer a very different experience.

Playing as part of a group introduces students to the collaborative side of music—listening to other musicians, keeping time, responding to what’s happening around them and learning how individual parts come together to create something bigger.

It’s also a great way to build confidence.

There’s something particularly rewarding about hearing a group of musicians come together and realise, we made that.

A new term gives us a natural opportunity to look at our routines and ask: What would we like to make time for this year?
